It has been a year since Suki has been outside without being held.
The first time we tried the harness, she freaked out so badly that I felt awful and didn't want to try again. Not that I could have anyway, she wouldn't let you get NEAR her with it.
But Thursday, she was jumping at the dragonflies through the window (over and over ) so Curly Girl tried it again. With success! They stayed outside 30 minutes....until she started getting restless.
First she just lay down and closed her eyes.....
then she rolled and rolled and rolled....
then she wandered around a bit, eating grass and looking for lizards...
She cried and cried when we brought her back in. A part of me felt SO guilty about turning a feral kitty into a house cat.
But...we also know that she is happy, healthy... and loves us as much as we do her! (yes, even Leo loves her unless he catches her on my bed!)

What a pretty cat Suki is.
Enjoy your weekend and Happy Mother's Day tomorrow!
Two ferals adopted us and I would love to convert them to house cats. The male, now fixed, is more likely to accept the new life style. The little female - not so much. She is quite the Huntress!
Your Suki is gorgeous!!!
i love cats.
Suki is gorgeous! I love her colors. We had a cat that we used to put on a leash outside. Some people thought we were crazy and others thought we were mean to the poor kitty. If they can put a leash on a lizard, bunny, dog, etc. then by golly I can put one on my cat. Especially if it is for their safety.
Suki has the best of both worlds lucky kitty. Sometimes I feel bad that mine don't go out but then I see a coyote lurking around at night or I hear horrible stories of abuse and I am glad mine are happy and safe indoors!
poor sweetheart! Have you tried just letting her go out there but staying with her and keeping an eye on her? That's what I've been doing with Oscar and he doesn't run away, he actually enjoys the fact that you sit out there with him!
It's hard though when they really wanna be outside and you can't let them though, I know the feeling!
The same thing is happening with our cat Batley. He wants outside so bad this year. It has never been an issue. He hated his harness at first, but now, he tolerates it because he knows it is ticket to outside freedom. He sits by the door and cries and cries. What is in the air with the kitties??
She's so cute! I think that the love she gets from her new family is a good trade for outdoor living! She looks like she thinks so too!
Jingles loves to go out on our balconies and will drive us crazy running from door to door to be let out. But the front door is another story. She is afraid of the big, bad world out there. :) Suki is so pretty and one lucky kitty cat that she has a wonderful family who loves her. Have a terrific Tuesday! :) Tammy
I guess she had a bigger desire to be out than the control of the lead. What a fun day for both of your lovely babies ;) I can say you had better luck with your feral kitty than me. I know some settle right down to a harness and lead. It looks like Suki is going to do just fine ;)
