This year, we have had several birdie broods grow up in and around the trees in our yard. We have a family of blue jays that have been with us since early spring. They come several times during the day, looking for bugs and playing in the birdbaths.
Momma bird is always the first to show up and the first to leave. When her babies were fledglings, she would come in and sit on the fence. The others wouldn't come until she called, then they would come in one by one. Papa bird always came in after the last baby arrived.
Some of the babies fledged later than others and there was a new baby joining them every few days until all 7 started arriving together. Now, it is quite a spectacle when they arrive because they swoop in as one big flock.
There are lots of little baby feathers in the birdbaths after they leave...
“There’s more to a jay than any other creature. You may call a jay a bird. Well, so he is, in a measure, ’cause he’s got feathers on him and he don’t belong to no church perhaps, but otherwise he’s just as much a human as you and me.” -Mark Twain

That really neat that you've been able to watch the babies growing and learning to fly. We see birds all the time but I haven't seen babies learning to fly in a long time. maybe I need to slow down and be more observant.
Now that's one quote I've not seen before. How lovely those jaybirds are. Such a pretty blue. Must be so nice to see the family all together. Happy August! Tammy
Great pics Val - I love it when we have feathered friends visit our birdbaths ...... makes a house a home :-)
