I was pretty jazzed about this week's challenge "Best In Show." We had to create something for a pet or animal.
Since I make stuff for our pets all the time, I decided to make some collars for our pooches.
I made Ginger's with ladybug and mushroom fabric (for good luck) and made Mojo's with fiesta fabric (he's such a party corgi.)
I used this tutorial and modified it by making a bias tape instead of using ribbon. I was seriously happy with how quickly they came together...and how cute they turned out.
And here they are...being "modeled" sort of. (I don't know how photographers take such great photos of animals.....I had to chase ours around the backyard forEVER)
If you've got pooches, you really should try this project. The savings alone is worth it.

been brewin'
Just got back from the doctor with Kaela.
She has a cold. She doesn't feel well, she has a really runny nose, a cough, a low temp and a headache. She doesn't want to eat much, just wants to sleep and get to feeling better.
Did I tell you she has a cold? Yep, she does.
I took her to the doctor. I knew she wouldn't get any meds because SHE HAS A COLD. She'll feel bad for a few days, but she'll live.
So I took her to the doctor knowing full well that I was going to pay good money for the doctor to look me in the eye and say "Yep, she has a cold alright."
So why did I get off work and take her to the doctor?
Oh, that's easy....so I could get the school a bleepin doctor's note that says "This child was seen in my office today and can go back to school when she/he feels better....."
I mean...really?
Why is this especially irritating to me?
Because when your kid has a cold and you KNOW it isn't anything but a cold, you shouldn't have to spend money on a doctor's visit simply to PROVE to the school that she has a cold.
Especially when she is an A student and the only time she is out of school is when she is sick or attending a school function.
Come ON, look it up....its right there in her file. She hasn't missed a huge number of days, right? She isn't checked out for manicures (I know someone who does this) or to go shopping (I know someone who does this too.)
Why is it that my kids are only 'allowed' to be sick 10 days a school year? And if, heaven forbid, they miss more days than that, they have to go to "Saturday" school or be put back?
I'll tell you why...
Because Ma and Pa Kettle from down the street, around the corner, over the hills and through the bleepin woods decided to take their kids to Disney, Hawaii, Florida, WHEREVER during state mandated testing and mucked the works up for the rest of us. (and being in the school, I know who you are and I know your kids needed to be in school studying.)
Oh....and its not just Kaela. When Matt was out 5 days with bronchitis, we got a note giving us a COURT DATE to provide information proving he was sick.......Just sayin......
Gee thanks

Ironcraft #12
This week's challenge was to create something using anything considered "lucky" and I immediately thought of ladybugs.
Ladybugs are considered good luck to gardeners...here is a link that tells all sorts of neat things about these lucky bugs...in the garden and beyond.
On to the challenge...
We constantly use our dining room since the kitchen bar is always covered with books and what not.
I need several more table cloths and have been thinking of making some so decided to make a new table cloth using some fabric I had in my stash:
here is a close up of the fabric.... I love it! (dragonflies are considered lucky too.)
feeling like I hadn't really very crafty, I made some ladybug bookmarks...
and just to give myself some luck.....
I hope it works......

challenge and a toy drop
Since joining, I've decided that I have to make something that either I can use or can give away as a gift....plus I have to use things ONLY on hand....which makes it a bit more challenging...and all the more fun!
Ironcraft's challenge #11 was to create something green so I decided to create a St. Paddy's day toy and use if for this month's Toy Society drop. I already had plenty of green fabric in my stash so here is the result:
I dropped her at Heritage Park yesterday after work!
It was a GORGEOUS day and the park was packed so I feel certain she will be found quickly.

cluck cluck...
I hosted another apron swap....this time the theme was chickens!
I made this apron for my partner:
and got this one in return...
two of the swappers sent me surprises....talk about making someone's day!
First Debbie sent me this bag and some hen -n- biddies for my patio. I've already put the bag to good use...
Then Rhonda sent me a ton of chicken fabric, a hen tea light and some bouillon cubes....
I was so touched by this gesture, thank you both!
