Last week was a tough one.
Not only did we have a lot going on, but we had lots of family and work related drama. Tears were shed and hugs were dolled out by the dozen. I was really looking forward to having Friday off (much needed!) and spent the day running errands and doing laundry.
When the kids got home, they brought in the mail and look what was waiting for me! Some poisoned apple anti-bac and some ghoulishly gorgeous hand stamped Halloween ribbon.
Thank you Kerry....you really made my day....and started my weekend off right!

more creepy crafting!
Last Halloween, a friend of mine sent me a sweet little monster pincushion she made out of a teeny votive candle holder.
Kerry had no idea that I love Frankenstein's monster....but she really made my day!
Just look how cute he is!!!!
Recently, I saw these little guys at Hobby Lobby and knew I had to follow suit.
I made several to give away during October so make sure you come back!

Make it Monthly
Here is my Make it Monthly gift for September. I made these for two little people. They are "Seek and Find" globe toys. My kids LOVED these types of toys when they were little and when I saw these globes I knew they would be perfect for the project.
I made them using some empty coca-cola bottles...the kind you can find during the holidays. (gotta get more!)
Then I filled them with bean bag filler and lots of little trinkets. Since the kids are young, I glued the top shut and then decorated it a little.
Kaela happened to have some girls spend the night last night and when they saw the toys, they started playing with them....a sure sign of success!

White Wednesday
The Wednesday before Homecoming, kids go out and roll houses. It started out as rival football players and cheerleaders...and now anyone and everyone does it.
It is all in good fun and the kids clean it up the next day....which is a good thing since they were the ones out doing it!

fixing things up
The last few weekends, we had to do some clean up and fix up from the Hurricane. We still have to get on the roof (who am I kidding...DEAN still has to get on the roof) to fix some shingles.
Here he is fixing the siding and vent...
but look who is back...along with a dozen others...
these little guys amaze me with their antics....no fear. Leo sits UNDER some of the feeders and they don't even bother looking at him.
I even managed to do some creepy crafting....check this link out if you want to see a sneak peek....

it is a long way up folks!
our little tree needed a boost and our angel's flower garden was pretty much whipped to death by the winds!
and our willow needed more help than we could give it. It looks better than it did though. We had to give it a radical haircut to remove some weight. A few ropes later and it still isn't straight.....now we are waiting for the next rain storm so the ground will get soaked and we can move it some more...

As long as America rolls over, other countries will let us. Time we stopped bowing from the waist and STOOD back up.
Sadly, many countries do not want tolerance or peace. Obama has yet to understand this. He thinks he can walk around telling every country what they want to hear and they will "LIKE" us and that will make him powerful. He is wrong and they won't. He has weakened this great country in less than 4 years. We are now not a power to be reckoned with.....we are just another country waiting to be beaten up.
And for anyone out there who thinks I'm a war monger, remember this....our founding fathers were fighters...and they fought to create this great country of ours. We need to go back to the beginning and put fighters back in the White House.

those eyes...those lips!

Today as we go about our day, never forget the atrocities of 9/11/01.
Take a moment to say a prayer for the families and friends that perished across our country at the hand of terrorists. Pray, and vote, for better leadership of our country - leadership that remembers the Christian values on which our country was founded.
So many immigrants come to our country everyday just to enjoy the freedoms we take for granted. Don't apologize for your success or struggles, your beliefs or non-belief and your citizenship in the greatest country of the world. Be proud to be an American! If you don't believe me, show me another country in the world that has a people who risk death to escape their countries to get to ours. My husband's parents moved from Honduras here in the 60's so they could give their family a better life.
It is important to REMEMBER so future generations never forget....

weekend catch up
This weekend went by so quickly....now that we are in football season, Dean worked both Friday and Saturday. I thought I would get a ton of crafting done but didn't....instead I got caught up reading a new book and read it until my eyes were blurry!
Saturday morning I dropped one of my little dammit dolls as a toy drop. I dropped it at a local football hang out where I'm sure someone would take it home.
Other than the LSU game, the only excitement we had was last night. We were asleep having gone to bed after watching the game and then SNL when Matt came flying into the bedroom with his eyes as big as saucers yelling at me to get up.
I jumped out of bed and came flying out into the hallway where there were about 100 spiderlings running amok. He told me he saw a huge spider and had killed it...now I am not a fan of spiders but I was cracking up because anyone who lives in the south knows that brown wood spiders keep their babies on their backs...and you DO NOT whack the big hairy ones....cuz that AIN'T HAIR! (I did this myself back in 1986!)
Matt was a bit freaked out as he said..."It was the biggest spider I have ever seen and when I whacked it, it exploded like a mushroom cloud...!"
For those of you that have never seen momma spiders with babies on their backs....lookie here:
The babies make them look ginormous and much creepier. I promise you Matt will NEVER forget this!
As for the rest of the weekend...LSU won so we were happy...but the Saints lost so my own dammit doll took a beating! At least the one I dropped was made in LSU colors so I know he didn't get beaten up!
Here is hoping you all have a great week!

crochet on...
Right before Hurricane Isaac hit our area, I kept busy by making things for the inevitable power outage.
I baked 4 dozen muffins, made 3 and a half pounds of basil butter and 2 dozen basil/olive oil cubes to use in sauces and stews.
I had just started my August make it monthly gift and didn't want to stop so crocheted well into the dark by candle light.
I came up with a tutorial for you crafty folk so next time you have a power outage you can follow my lead.
1 full bottle of wine
1 glass
1 skein yarn or WIP
1 hook
1 lit candle
A.) crochet by holding work in front of candle and use back light to see stitches. Crochet this way until you get a severe head ache from all the squinting.
B.) say the he$$ with crocheting and drink wine to counteract headache you got by crocheting in the dark in front of a candle. This also softens those new squint wrinkles you created by crocheting in step A for way too long.
That being said, my new motto is:
Today the sun is shining and our yard is reasonably put back together. We still have trees that we've tied up and a problem with our roof that can't be handled until this week....but overall, we were VERY blessed to have come through the storm relatively unscathed.

the horrors!
I think we may be seen on national tv soon...
On that show "You Might Be A Redneck If..."
yep....check out my makeshift "screen door."
Our neighbor ran over when he saw it thinking the hurricane had torn our door off! (nope, just hot so we opened the door when the rain wasn't as hard.)
The dogs and Leo wouldn't have left the house but Suki would have so I made this lovely contraption to keep her in:
nothing screams CLASS like 2 baby gates,a laundry rack, and several HANGERS...but even with this up, you can see her checking it for weaknesses!
